It’s timed really well as it’s also the first day at SDCC, so come and see me at booth #5557 and pick up some FREE PRJ trading cards at the DC booth (they agreed to do another run because I’m almost out). I feel like I should say something more, but there isn’t a lot left to say after all the interviews.
But I did want to offer an open thank you to everyone’s support here on DA. I know there are a lot who would rather see me dedicate my time to something like Batman, but most of the comments I’m getting are of overwhelming support (although I hear more and more rumors about boycotts in Brazil). Even the people who are on the fence about the subject matter have been open, honest, and fair when I meet them at shows. Things fall into disarray very quickly with forums, especially when it’s subjects that matter most to us: religion, art, digital inking, etc. And even though we don’t all agree, I’m thrilled with how intelligent and respectful the discourse has been over the years.
Sometimes I’ll overhear comic artists getting upset over the sorts of comments their followers make online. I don’t feel that way at all; in fact, it’s only helped me realize how different a lot of you are. It’s clear that most people reading this are atypical comic-readers and artists: you aren’t afraid of a little controversy and aren’t overly sensitive when we don’t agree. That’s a BIG DEAL to me, because most people would un-follow an artist at the first sign of controversy.
So thank you again. If the first 8 pages of issue #1 doesn’t grab you, then I don’t know what will. I hope you all enjoy it. And if you’ve got a beef then by all means let me know–I’m always happy to take the time at a convention to hear new ideas and learn more about my audience. Or you can post here–it’s rare when I ever hide a comment (usually it’s a friend of mine acting like an asshole when I hide something).
